Welcome Miriam Axelbaum, DPT!
Please welcome Miriam Axelbaum, DPT to our practice!
Inspired by her older sister, Miriam began dancing at the age of 4. Throughout the years she dealt with minor dance-related injuries and always loved spending time with her physical therapist who listened and helped her to heal. Miriam had an inkling that eventually she’d find herself pursuing physical therapy as a career.
Miriam is a St. Louis native who received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014. She then moved to Boston, where she obtained her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2021. Her clinical experiences during school included time at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, in both inpatient and outpatient settings while working with a wide variety of diagnoses and a complex patient caseload. She has a passion for providing equitable, individualized care for people of all backgrounds.
Her background in competitive dance inspired her to become a physical therapist and today, she competes as a marathon runner. Miriam has developed a special interest in rehabilitation for general orthopedics, running-related injuries, dance medicine, sports injuries, balance disorders, and post-surgical care. She moved to Charlottesville in 2021 and has been working towards her goal of becoming an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) under the mentorship of Move Better Physical Therapy.
Away from the clinic, Miriam loves to spend time outside and keep active. She is an avid runner, completing her first marathon in 2019 and successfully qualifying for the Boston Marathon. She also enjoys biking, hiking, camping, and spending time with her family, and she bakes amazing banana bread.
