Something for Everyone: Run Better in Cville
Whether you’re new to Charlottesville or a native, you probably know that this is a great place to be a runner. There are lots of options when choosing where to perform your daily training run, and just as many opportunities to run with the community. As the weather cools, Charlottesville races are often a chance to enjoy the amazing beauty of our area in the fall. These are a few of our favorite upcoming Charlottesville races.
The Charlottesville Track Club is hosting the Bill Steers Mens 4-Miler, an all male run to benefit prostate cancer research on October 5. The run starts and ends at Scott Stadium, giving you the chance to enjoy gorgeous fall weather near the grounds of University of Virginia. Compete for prizes as an individual or in a father/son team. For more information, click here.
The Community Bridges 5K Run/Walk also allows you to enjoy UVA scenery while benefitting AHIP (Albemarle Housing Improvement Program), Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, the Charlottesville Public Housing Association of Residents (PHAR) and the Piedmont Housing Alliance. This 5k race takes place on October 12 and begins at the UVA Chemistry building, right at the heart of grounds. To learn more, click here.
Saturday, October 26, the Charlottesville Track Club will be officiating at the annual Buzz by Belmont 5K Family Fun Run/Walk + Kids Dash. This starts and finishes at Clark Elementary School, leading you on a rolling course through some of Charlottesville’s most vibrant neighborhoods. All proceeds benefit the Clark Education Opportunity Fund. The free Kids’ Dash for elementary students (Pre-K to 4th grade) is a new addition that will get the whole family involved. Find out more by clicking here.
The annual 5K Run/Walk for Shelter on November 2 is a well loved annual fundraising and awareness event that attracts 200-300 dedicated runners in support of Shelter (https://www.shelterforhelpinemergency.org/). This beautiful run on Charlottesville’s Historic Downtown Mall includes awards for top finishers and grab bags sponsored by local businesses. For more information, please click here.
No matter how much you love to run, there is must no motivation better than a Thanksgiving meal afterward! When the run is also set amidst beautiful surroundings and the proceeds go to a good cause, you have an event that you simply will not want to miss. The 38th Annual Boar’s Head Turkey Trot will inspire you to be truly thankful (and make that turkey dinner taste even better). Registration fees help kids at the UVA Children’s Hospital. Find out how to join the fun at https://www.raceplace.com/events/55739/38th-annual-boar-s-head-turkey-trot.
You can’t beat the view at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, and you can have your chance to enjoy the gorgeous scenery at the Monticello Holiday Classic 5K and Deck the Halls Kids Dash on December 7. This run allows you to run on the historic property and enjoy the phenomenal surrounding views while experiencing the very special magic of Monticello during the holidays.
If you feel intimidated by the idea of joining the Charlottesville running community, contact one of our running specialists. We will be happy to explain our Run Better and Perform Better programs and help you start training for your next 5k! Our programs begin with a detailed running injury history and lower extremity function screening, and are enhanced by video gait analysis, allowing us to assess the efficiency of your movement. We treat with runner-specific exercises and manual therapy that will improve your hip, knee, and ankle mobility. Gait training complements these efforts to improve the efficiency of your stride and allow you to Run Better.
