Continuous Learning For Great Results
Early this August I got the chance to attend a continuing education course with two of my colleagues Heather Walton DPT, OCS and Reid Moseley DPT, CSCS. The course title was “Strength and Conditioning for the Practicing Clinician” and it was a great opportunity for us to brush up on some foundational strength and training physiology and how to apply it to a broad range of patient populations. The Virginia Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Institute hosted the course, and our fellow participants came from various clinics around the state.
Michael P. Reiman, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, ATC, FAAOMPT, CSCS and Associate Professor Duke University Medical Center Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was the presenter, and for two days he lectured on creating strength programs, periodization, energy system utilization, and exercise progression. As is typically the case with continuing education courses, there was a fair amount of review, a discussion on varying expert opinions, and an update on the relevant recent research. It’s always useful to get to discuss patient cases and different approaches to treatment, and this course was no exception.
By the end of the weekend, we came away refreshed and that much more prepared to evaluate and treat our athletes here in Charlottesville. Whether you are a runner training for that next marathon, a weekend warrior rehabilitating from surgery to get back to basketball, or a senior looking to dominate on the pickleball court, the Doctorate trained Physical Therapists at Move Better Physical Therapy are ready and excited to get you back out there!
